Another Messages recipient

Set up Phone / iMessage

Pass a processed message from Fwrd to Shortcuts’ native Send Message action.

How this destination works

Fwrd processes the incoming automation input and returns the message as Fwrd Result. The Phone / iMessage action that follows in Apple Shortcuts performs delivery; Fwrd does not send it directly.

Before you begin

  • Messages configured on the iPhone
  • A recipient you can safely use for testing
  • A user-created Message automation in Apple Shortcuts

Set up the destination

8 steps

  1. Add Fwrd’s action

    Place Fwrd’s message-processing action before the native delivery action in your Apple Shortcuts automation.

  2. Map the incoming message

    In Fwrd’s Message field, select the Message property from the automation input.

  3. Map the sender

    In Fwrd’s Sender field, select the Sender property from the automation input.

  4. Add Send Message

    Add this action directly after Fwrd. This native Shortcuts action—not Fwrd—performs delivery.

  5. Pass Fwrd’s result forward

    Set the Message field to the blue Fwrd Result variable.

  6. Set the saved recipient

    Choose the same recipient you saved in Fwrd so the guide and destination remain easy to identify.

  7. Review confirmation

    Turn Show When Run off if that option is available.

    Interaction setting ← Off when available

  8. Check the automation

    Use Run Immediately and turn Notify When Run off. Test while unlocked, then on a locked physical iPhone.

What counts as verified

A saved destination, completed checklist, or successful connection test is setup evidence—not delivery proof. Final verification requires a sanitized incoming SMS on a physical iPhone and the matching result at Phone / iMessage, including a locked-device test when that is part of your intended use.
