Get iPhone Texts on a Windows PC

By Fwrd ·

You can read selected new iPhone texts on a Windows PC by forwarding them to a chat service available on both devices. Apple’s Text Message Forwarding feature is for eligible Apple devices signed in to the same Apple Account. This chat-app method is one way and does not turn Windows into a second iPhone Messages inbox.

What you need: An iPhone that receives the texts, Shortcuts, a Slack, Discord, or Telegram destination, and the same chat service on your Windows PC.

Use a chat app on both devices

Install Slack, Discord, or Telegram on the iPhone and Windows PC, or use the service’s supported web version. Sign in to the same chat account on each device. On the iPhone, create a Message automation in Shortcuts and choose which new texts should match.

Fwrd adds an action that sends the matching text to a Slack, Discord, or Telegram destination you set up. You create the automation yourself; Fwrd does not read your inbox in the background or create the automation for you. The iPhone decides which messages match, and Fwrd sends those messages to your configured destination.

Start with a narrow rule, such as a word used in delivery notices or verification messages. If the word appears in unrelated texts, those messages may also be sent. You can change the rule in Shortcuts later. Follow our Shortcuts message automation guide for the trigger steps. For the full Fwrd and destination setup, watch the Slack video, Discord video, or Telegram video.

Set up forwarding to your PC

  1. Install the same chat service on the iPhone and Windows PC, or open its supported web app on the PC.
  2. Set up a destination in Fwrd, such as a Slack channel, Discord channel, or Telegram chat.
  3. In Shortcuts, create a Message automation. The screen names differ by iOS version; our current guide shows both paths.
  4. Choose a sender from Contacts or set a Message Contains rule.
  5. Add Fwrd’s Forward Message action and use the incoming message as its input.
  6. Set the automation to run without asking. Send a test text and check the destination on your PC.

The iPhone must be on and online when the text arrives. Your PC also needs internet access to receive the chat message. A service outage or lost connection can delay or prevent delivery.

What gets forwarded?

Fwrd sends the text of new messages that match your rule. It does not copy old message history or photos. You can read the forwarded text on your PC, but a reply in Slack, Discord, or Telegram does not come from your iPhone number. This is a chat copy, not a second Messages inbox.

Apple’s Text Message Forwarding can show SMS, MMS, and RCS messages on eligible Apple devices such as a Mac or iPad that use the same Apple Account. A Windows PC is outside that feature. See Apple’s setup guide.

Microsoft Phone Link is another option for Windows 11. Microsoft says its iPhone messaging is session-based: messages come through while the iPhone is connected to the PC. It can show and reply to messages, but it does not turn Windows into a full copy of iPhone Messages. Check Microsoft’s current Phone Link for iPhone details for limits and compatibility. A chat app is a separate option if you want selected texts in a channel or group.

Limits of reading iPhone texts on a PC

This method forwards only new messages that match your Shortcuts rule. It does not import conversations already on the iPhone. Fwrd forwards text only, so images and other attachments do not appear in the chat. Replies use the chat account, not the iPhone number.

Do not use this as an emergency alert path. The iPhone, network, chat service, and PC all need to work for the message to appear where you expect it. Test with a non-sensitive message first, and avoid forwarding private information to a shared channel.

Check the whole route

The source iPhone must be the device that receives the original SMS. It must be powered on and able to run the automation. The chat app on the PC must be signed in to the right account, and the destination channel must be accessible to you.

If a test message does not appear, check the Shortcuts rule first. Confirm the message actually matches it, then check Fwrd’s destination and the chat app on Windows. Test with a non-sensitive message before forwarding real alerts. This route sends a copy to chat; it does not bring the iPhone’s old conversations into Windows.
