Discord webhook tester
Paste a webhook URL to check that it works and see which channel it posts to, then send a sample message if you like.
It runs in your browser. Your webhook URL goes straight to Discord (discord.com) and nowhere else: this site never sees it, and nothing is saved. Treat the URL like a password: anyone who has it can post to your channel. If it leaks, delete the webhook in Discord and make a new one.
How to check a webhook
- Make a webhook: in Discord on a computer, open Server Settings, then Integrations, and choose Create Webhook (or New Webhook if the server has one already). Pick the channel it posts to.
- Click Copy Webhook URL.
- Paste it here and press Check webhook. It reads the webhook’s name and channel without posting anything.
- Press Send a message to post one message to that channel.
If the check fails
- Discord doesn’t know this webhook
- The webhook was deleted, or part of the URL is missing. Make a new one and copy it with Copy Webhook URL, so nothing gets cut off.
- The token is wrong
- The long part after the last slash doesn’t match. Someone may have reset the webhook’s URL; copy the current one.
- It says to wait
- Discord limits how fast one webhook can post. Wait the seconds it names, then send again.
- The message arrived in the wrong channel
- Each webhook posts to one channel. Change the channel in the webhook’s settings, or make a webhook in the channel you want.
- I can’t find Integrations on my phone
- Discord’s iPhone app may not show webhooks. Use Discord in a web browser or on a computer, and you need the Manage Webhooks permission.
Example message
A webhook takes JSON. This is a message as your own code would send it:
{
"content": "Your sign-in code is 482913",
"username": "Text alerts",
"allowed_mentions": { "parse": [] }
}The same message from a terminal, with your webhook’s two parts in the URL:
curl -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"content": "Hello from my webhook"}' \
"https://discord.com/api/webhooks/<WEBHOOK_ID>/<WEBHOOK_TOKEN>"- content is the message text, up to 2,000 characters.
- username changes the name shown above this one message; leave it out to use the webhook’s own name.
- allowed_mentions with an empty parse list stops @everyone or a role in the text from pinging anyone.
- Discord answers 204 with no body, or 200 with the message it made if you add ?wait=true to the URL.
Sending your iPhone’s texts to this channel
I built this for Fwrd, my iPhone app that forwards the texts you choose to a Discord channel, such as sign-in codes or alerts. Paste this webhook URL into Fwrd’s Discord destination, and texts arrive in the channel on their own. The Discord setup guide walks through the rest, and forwarding iPhone SMS to Discord shows what it’s for.
Fwrd on the App Store: free for 15 forwards a month.
